Over the course of 2.5 years, I worked as a project architect for the local partner studio, actively contributing to shape the vision for the transformation of the former repair plant into a cultural complex in Budapest. The design intent was to preserve industrial heritage by adaptive reuse, which required a careful approach to integrate the new design elements with historical buildings. My responsibilities ranged from urban research, overseeing architectural design development to interior design, coordination work of engineers and heritage authority negotiations, while collaborating closely with lead designers and presenting studies for the client. After a very careful analysis of the historical building and the future ambitions of the cultural centre, precise but dynamic renovation plans were drafted with a possible execution in several phases. The renovations aim to strengthen the identity of each of the three subsections of the building and include the restoration of several historical rooms, renewal of entrances towards the plaza, multipurpose spaces, installation of new restrooms and the renovation of community spaces. As a cultural actor my focus lied at advocacy planning of the cultural hub as the longest-operating community centre in town, fostering an autonomous management model within the grand scheme of the revitalization project. The adaptive flexibility has been a legacy of the building as a laissez-faire entity hosting a wide assortment of clubs, events and communities. We developed a hybrid business model of rental venues outlining three autonomous subsections: the suite of community club rooms, the restaurant-catering, and the conference facilities. This delineation of different zones within the building provides operational clarity and makes it easier to manage functions without compromising the flexibility of the spaces <img width="1920" as the ‘Small Campus,’ serves as an introduction to the main program incorporating four listed industrial heritage buildings in the north-east corner of the site. The architectural concept, which required a careful approach to integrate the new design elements with historical buildings, involves adding metal-clad ‘ghost houses’ to the existing structures, creating a subtle shimmer within the post-industrial landscape. The four small buildings are designated as follows: Building #34 - The former garage workshop designed to accommodate the Café and a display area for smaller vehicles. Building #51 - The weighing hall, which will be transformed into a spacious workshop for larger vehicles, intended for training and knowledge transfer of the former repair plant Building #90 - This well-preserved Cold War shelter presented with minimal intervention, showcasing its historical significance. Building #94 - The former warehouse will be repurposed to host cultural events, startup offices, and topical exhibitions. Over the course of almost 3 years, my responsibilities included design coordination and facilitating communication between international and local designers and engineers. Working with a simple objective, to transform the fragmented rooms into an elegant, free-flow layout, allowed me to experiment with the interplay of the old and the new. I kept wooden doors and parts of the floor from the original layout, combining them with a new, simple arrangement that works in accordance with the traditional split into the day and the night zones. The concept behind the materiality aimed to respond to the spatial choreography and arrival experience, progressively transitioning from a subdued entrance area including a kitchen set-back with darker tones to the luminous living room. The unifying gesture of the oak parquet with its longitudinal grain provides continuity to the dining space entry hall and the living room. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; <img width="4899" height="3266" In collaborative effort, artists Martin Kiman and Zsófia Szőke constructed single cell unit objects that could be entered and provided the viewer with a contemplative solitude in a busy urban environment. In the course of the project we researched the significant trivialities of the city, utilising the implementation of an open spatial concept as a vehicle of public seclusion and togetherness. ‘Cellotope’ explores the idea of functionally underdetermined, ephemeral microarchitecture and its potential within the public space. The enterable cells are constructed using repurposed materials, and strategically placed in the terrain vague to generate secret empty ‘trading rooms’ for the urbanites. The aim was to assess the impact of different units on somatic experiences, particularly in terms of intimacy, isolation, and protection, by the assembly of tangible structures as volatile self-containers. Setting a soft and imaginative tone, these capsules can functionally enhance the public space, making the city more usable and livable. <img width="720" height="1080" width_o="720" height_o="1080" For Ventura Lambrate we created the Cloud table, an event table that explores the possibilities of tables for information exchange and networking. Charging stations can become a nest for informal meetings where they put on and off their devices on the tabletop to charge their batteries, wire- and clutter-free. The area of one-way marketing turns into a community boosted proximity datasharing field where visitors can communicate with the exhibitors. A multitouch desktop enables a deeper common experience while browsing through related catalogues, webpages or by interacting with each other through various artworks. The project brought together researchers and practitioners from art, architecture, technology and craftmanship to explore the emerging role of ‘situate’́ technologies in the design, which outcomes are embodied in our prototype. I was primarily in charge of technological research, as the mediation between different parties, and involved in carpentry constructing, though the most part I spent with form-giving studies, testing spatial relations using models from 1:20 up to 1:1 scale. Her visual journal and narrative texts investigating the spatial concept of ma (emptiness) inherent in Japanese culture enfolds my reader: collected texts with incident thoughts on somatic experiences and soft transitions. The reader serves as my first autonomous research on aesthetics shared within art and architecture, which I developed as a tool to help organise my broad interest in the bodily apprehension of space. Up until now this meant collecting various spatial theories and artistic antecedents that I would like to incorporate into my own spatial practice. Composed of elemental shapes of fog harvesting meshes, it creates a space of ambiguous transitions in terms of light, hue, humidity and motion as the wind blows through the hanging lattices, turning the air into water. Literally generating its own reflection – embodying the narcissistic aesthetics we now refuse in art but demand from design–, ‘This is Water’ encourages a debate around the utopian expectations about its own material and the limits of art, design and architecture. The water lab has been choreographed with the interplay of two spatial situations. Manifesting the inauguration of the fictional economical model of water sharing, the attendees are asked to sit down for a moment and take out a test, confronting their power imbalance over resources over the Liquidity desk. In the indoor glass pavilion of the building I have created a Biotope for my researched material staged in a rooftop scenario, to expose it to the changing environmental circumstances (like wind, temperature and humidity) and let it react on. ‘This is Water’ is the titular parable of David Foster Wallace’s over-quoted speech to graduating students. The speech is praised and despised for embodying the push against postmodern irony, in the name of a New Sincerity.
